FAQ
Common questions.
What does the per-student price cover?
Everything. The per-student/year price is an institutional licence that includes unlimited lecturer, admin, and HOD/Dean accounts. No per-seat fees. When a new lecturer joins or a department expands, they get full access at no extra cost.
How is Acexen different from Turnitin?
Turnitin gives you plagiarism detection and a similarity percentage. Acexen includes plagiarism detection, AI content detection, and reasoning-shift detection — plus AI marking, personalised developmental feedback, lecturer calibration, and (on Complete) teaching intelligence. Turnitin is a detection tool. Acexen is an intelligence platform that includes detection.
Does AI replace the lecturer?
No. The lecturer has full authority over every mark and every piece of feedback. Before the AI marks anything, the lecturer manually marks 5 papers to calibrate it. During moderation, the lecturer marks 5 papers blind before seeing AI results. The AI does the heavy lifting. The lecturer provides the judgment.
What submission formats are supported?
PDF with OCR for scanned handwriting, DOCX, code files, and digital submissions. Batch upload supported. Submissions via LMS, email, or direct upload — designed for the infrastructure institutions actually have.
Who owns the data?
The institution owns everything — data, institutional AI model, capability maps, and intelligence. Full data export, retention controls, and audit trails are standard. Data governance is a right, not a premium feature.
Can we start with Essentials and upgrade?
Yes. Many institutions start with Essentials across the institution and upgrade specific departments to Complete. Mid-year upgrades are pro-rated.
How does early warning work?
The system monitors reasoning quality and engagement across assessments. When a student's reasoning trajectory declines, the AI reaches out through the feedback conversation — naturally and supportively. Academic signals only. No social or emotional speculation.
What is the Capability Passport?
A verified record of a student's intellectual development across their entire academic journey. Not just a degree classification — demonstrated reasoning quality, analytical growth, and cognitive development trajectory. Available on Complete. Coming soon.
